The match between the Minnesota Wolves and the Golden State Warriors could not be played last night, and was postponed to this Sunday (11:30 p.m. French time). The cause of the NBA’s postponement? “Ensuring the safety of the Minneapolis community”, at the heart of tensions following the murder of a 37-year-old man.
Alex Pretti, a nurse, died yesterday after being shot several times by a Border Patrol agent. A new incident which hits Minneapolis, barely 17 days after the death of Renée Good. This 37-year-old woman lost her life following gunshots by an ICE agent (immigration police).

Despite the polar cold hitting Minneapolis (-20 degrees), thousands of people are currently demonstrating against the presence of the immigration police, sent by Donald Trump. These demonstrations notably surrounded the Target Center (Wolves room) and the Warriors hotel according to ESPN.
The city where the Wolves of Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert play is renowned for its diversity as well as its numerous foreign communities (including the Somali community). It’s part of Minneapolis’ identity. These new episodes of violence are reminiscent of the George Floyd tragedy in 2020 (also died in Minneapolis), even if the contexts are obviously different.
We also remember that, in the past, isolated demonstrations had taken place inside the Wolves hall itself, in particular to defend animal rights. This undoubtedly helped convince Adam Silver to postpone Saturday’s meeting…
