The Unrivaled league hoped to rely on the enthusiasm around Dominique Malonga to promote its second season, and the Frenchwoman does the job perfectly! Not content with averaging more than 16 points and 10 rebounds in her first six games (second best rebounder behind Aaliyah Edwards), the Breeze Basketball center slammed her first dunk in a match last night.
Served by Rickea Jackson in the first quarter, Dominique Malonga flew to slam the circle with her right hand, marking the start of this second season of the women’s 3×3 league.
“It feels really good. I trained a lot”, she confided after the 75-68 victory against the Lunar Owls. “I don’t want to be a practice dunker, I also want to be able to do it in a match. So I’m happy for that. I was also happy to feel the love from the whole room. Everyone was so into it, it was a great time.”
First shock at the summit tomorrow evening
The French international did not have the opportunity to dunk in a match during her rookie season in the WNBA with the Seattle Storm, only in training.
This Unrivaled season is an opportunity for the second pick in the last WNBA Draft to continue to show his skills. In particular, she forms a formidable tandem with leader Paige Bueckers, number 1 in the 2025 Draft, best passer and third best scorer in the league (24.2 points and 6.8 assists on average). Ironically, she also finds her former coach at the Storm, Noelle Quinn, sacked at the end of last season, in particular for her management of the Malonga case.
With four victories in six games already, Breeze Basketball will be taken seriously this season. Only Laces Basketball by Brittney Sykes and Alyssa Thomas has done better so far (5v-1d). The two teams will face each other tomorrow evening (at 2:45 a.m. French time) for the first clash at the top of Season II Unrivaled.
