The first round of the Wengen slalom saw Atle Lie McGrath set the best time. The Norwegian, author of a superb final sector, has 0″40 over a duo formed by Loïc Meillard and Henrik Kristoffersen. The 2nd round can be followed from 1:00 p.m. on RTS 2.
Meillard is in the running for a second podium in Wengen, having taken 2nd place in the slalom in 2023. He will have to pull out all the stops to win against McGrath, winner last year in the Bernese resort.
Nave straddles
Well off to a good start, Tanguy Nef straddled halfway and will not be there on the second route. The Genevan will still have to wait before signing the first podium of his career in the World Cup.
“There were good things, but also this radical error“, regretted Nef at the RTS microphone. “It’s frustrating, because I felt good. Maybe it was the attitude that was wrong. I probably should have made it a little simpler.“
July 17e, Iten 21e
Daniel Yule, for his part, provided the essentials by taking provisional 17th place, 2”28 behind McGrath. The last Swiss to qualify, Matthias Iten occupies 23rd place (+2″51).
Finally, Sandro Simonet (40th), Ramon Zenhäusern (45th), Luca Aerni (47th) and Marc Rochat (eliminated) failed to qualify for the second route.
