After Jackie Kennedy, it is to Marilyn Monroe that the Collections de Saint-Cyprien will pay tribute at the start of the year, via a magnificent exhibition which will be presented until Tuesday March 31. More than a movie star, Marilyn was and will forever remain one of the most beautiful women in the world with magnetic charm and a dazzling smile. But a woman also fragile and mysterious, with a complicated personal journey to the point of taking refuge in alcohol and medications, until her tragic disappearance at the age of 36.
The exhibition “Marilyn, my love” pays tribute to this iconic woman, free, rebellious, provocative, sometimes insolent but oh so endearing…
Very personal aspects of his life
With around a hundred photos, some of which have never been seen before, this exhibition looks at very personal aspects of Marilyn’s life: the men in her life, James Dougherty whom she married at the age of 16, Joe DiMaggio, the most popular baseball player of the time who shared her life for a few months in the early 1950s, Arthur Miller, her third husband who became exhausted by his addictions. His friendships also, with the poet Norman Rosten or the writer Truman Capote, and personalities who crossed his life: President John F. Kennedy and his brother Bobby, Martin Luther King, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Alfred Hitchcock, Tony Curtis, Sammy Davis Jr., James Dean, Marlon Brando, Sir Laurence Olivier, Gloria Swanson, Clark Gable, Darryl Zanuck, Ernest Hemingway, Marcel Proust, Walt Whitman, Victor Hugo and many others. And of course his love affair with Hollywood.
Illuminated by original texts by the writer David Lawrence and benefiting from a beautiful scenography, this exhibition is a magnificent opportunity to meet the actress, whose aura continues to shine 64 years after her death.
