Manchester City eventually beat Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool, paying millions of pounds for a defender.
Marc Guéhi has agreed to a transfer to Manchester City. Fabrizio Romano and BBC Sport, among others, report that Crystal Palace have accepted the offer.
Guehi will cost City a fortune
Manchester City pay £20m for Crystal Palace captain. The 25-year-old Englishman therefore costs a little more than 23 million euros.
Guéhi has given his agreement, although the details of his contract remain to be finalized. According to BBC Sport, this should not be a problem.
Due to injuries to Josko Gvardiol, John Stones and Rúben Dias, City wanted to act quickly and accelerated the transfer.
Glasner confirms Guéhi’s departure
Guéhi, an English international with 26 caps, had long been coveted by the biggest European clubs. His transfer to Liverpool this summer collapsed at the last minute, with Crystal Palace failing to find a replacement.
Outgoing Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner also confirmed the transfer. “The transfer is in the final stages”he declared in a press conference before the match against Sunderland.
Guéhi will not participate in this meeting.
Guéhi said no to Real, Liverpool and Barça
Crystal Palace signed Guéhi from Chelsea in 2021 for almost €25 million. Since then, he has competed 188 games with the Eagles.
The defender, who was also wanted at Real Madrid and Barcelona, won the FA Cup last season and the Community Shield in August.
This season he has 33 appearances and three goals to his name. Guéhi’s contract with Crystal Palace was due to expire next summer.
