Werne. The LippeBaskets Werne suffered the expected defeat on Friday evening in the ball game hall. After the break, Christoph Henke’s protégés held their own against the promotion favorites and could almost have turned the game around.
1st Regional League: LippeBaskets Werne – BBA Hagen 71:86 (12:23, 17:23, 23:14, 19:26)
“It was a fighting and energetic performance from my team. We stood up to Hagen in the second half,” said the head coach after the final siren.
We went into the dressing room 17 points behind. A big mortgage, but the hosts moved closer and closer to Hagen in the third quarter and reduced the score to seven points. “But it wasn’t enough to turn things around because we didn’t hit well from the three-point line,” complained Christoph Henke. Only four of 21 throws (19 percent) ended up in the basket.
“All in all, it was a deserved win for the Hagen team, who want to get into the professional game. Before the break, they made good use of their speed and athleticism. We didn’t have them under control,” said the LBW coach, who is optimistic about the next away game in Ibbenbüren. “If we fight as a unit, we can stand up to strong opponents.”
But Saturday evening will be successful for the LippeBaskets. At the sports gala in the Kolping Hall, the basket hunters receive the sports plaque from the city of Werne “for outstanding achievements in sports”. This honors the promotion to the 1st regional league almost ten months ago.
