Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh, the country’s number one, kicks off the season by competing in the 2026 Super 750 India Open, taking place from January 13 to 18 in New Delhi, India.
Because Thùy Linh is not qualified for a major Super 750 tournament, she will face strong opponents in the first rounds. The draw has indeed placed the “Miss Badminton Vietnam” in a difficult group in the qualifying round.
In her opening match, Thùy Linh takes on former world champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu. The two are no strangers to each other; the Vietnamese representative even won both meetings last year. In this rematch, however, Thùy Linh is clearly considered inferior to her opponent.
Despite her sometimes inconsistent performances, PV Sindhu remains a top player when she is on form. Last week, the world’s richest female badminton player put in an excellent performance at the Super 1000 Malaysia Open, easily beating Sung Shuo-yun and young talent Tomoka Miyazaki in straight sets, then winning 21-11 against Akane Yamaguchi in the first set before “Robot Cat” bowed out. With this she secured a place in the semi-finals, where she only lost to Wang Zhiyi.
In this tournament, PV Sindhu has an added advantage thanks to the support of the home crowd. A challenging match awaits Thùy Linh.

If Thuy Linh beats the host nation’s pride in badminton, she will most likely face world number 2 Wang Zhiyi in the round of 16. However, if Wang pulls off a big surprise, Tomoka Miyazaki or Supanida Katethong will be waiting for her in the quarter-finals.
Two other very strong opponents in the same group leading to the semi-finals are Tokyo Olympic champion Chen Yufei and Han Yue.
In the past, Nguyen Thuy Linh has never advanced beyond the first round of the India Open. Last season she suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Yeo Jia Min.
After the India Open, Thuy Linh will travel to Indonesia to participate in the Super 500 Indonesia Masters 2026 (January 20-25).
