Vietnam’s number one badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh will start the season by participating in the Super 750 India Open 2026, which will be held in New Delhi, India, from January 13 to 18.
Not being seeded in a major Super 750 tournament, Thùy Linh will have to face formidable opponents from the first rounds. Indeed, the draw placed “Miss Badminton Vietnam” in a difficult table for qualifications.
For her first fight, Thùy Linh will face former world champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu. The two boxers know each other well; the Vietnamese also won their two confrontations last year. However, for this rematch, Thùy Linh is clearly considered inferior to her opponent.
Despite sometimes irregular performances, PV Sindhu remains a very high level player when she is in good shape. Last week, the world’s richest badminton player had a remarkable performance at the Super 1000 Malaysia Open: she easily beat Sung Shuo-yun and young hopeful Tomoka Miyazaki in straight sets, then dominated Akane Yamaguchi 21-11 in the first set before “Robot Cat” retired, advancing to the semi-finals where she was beaten only by Wang Zhiyi.
In this tournament, PV Sindhu will have a definite advantage thanks to the support of her audience. A difficult match awaits Thùy Linh.

If Thuy Linh manages to defeat the host country’s badminton pride, she will most likely face world number 2 Wang Zhiyi in the round of 16. In the event of an upset against Wang, Tomoka Miyazaki or Supanida Katethong also await the Phu Tho player in the quarter-finals.
Two other formidable opponents in the same draw leading to the semi-finals are Tokyo Olympic champion Chen Yufei and Han Yue.
In the past, Nguyen Thuy Linh has never made it past the first round of the Indian Open. Last season, she suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Yeo Jia Min.
After the India Open, Thuy Linh will travel to Indonesia to compete in the Super 500 Indonesia Masters 2026 (January 20-25).
