Leonese Basketball: National Team Rise This Christmas

The work of the Lioness and Somos Hijolusa youth teams was recognized again last Christmas with the presence of several of their players in national and regional teams. One of the most notable citations was that of Águeda Herrera, a member of the Somos Hijolusa junior team, which was part of the Spanish 3×3 U17 Basketball Team.

The player from León participated in the Christmas concentration held in Madrid from December 27 to 29, 2025, a call that confirms the continued monitoring that the Spanish Federation maintains on her progression, since it is not the first time that she has entered the national team’s plans.

Regional representation in Zaragoza

The Leonese presence was also extended to the regional level with the participation of Celia Fernández and Isabel Soto, players from the Somos Hijolusa children’s team, in the Spanish Children’s Championship of Regional Teams, held in Zaragoza from January 3 to 7.

Both defended the colors of Castilla y León, a team that completed an outstanding championship and finished in fourth position, competing face to face with the main powers of national grassroots basketball.

Recognition of basic work

From those around the club, it is emphasized that these calls represent direct support for the training model developed in León and the constant growth of its young players. The presence in official concentrations and championships also reinforces the sporting projection of the Lioness and Somos Hijolusa quarries, which are increasingly present on the Spanish basketball scene.
