Lawson: Red Bull Engine Boost Hopeful

The Barcelona winter test is a very important measuring moment for Red Bull and Racing Bulls. The brand new Red Bull Powertrains engine is being subjected to intensive testing for the first time. On Monday everything went according to plan, as Isack Hadjar (Red Bull) and Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls) completed 195 laps together. Lawson sends a positive signal about the engine.

“It feels good so far, but it’s still difficult to say anything definitive about it,” Lawson said F1. “The most important thing is reliability. Today we did quite a few laps and there were only a few little things that went wrong. To be honest, the only problems we really had were safety measures, not real technical issues.”

So nothing with the engine. “So far, the power unit has been very good. But again, it is difficult to say where we stand compared to the other teams. We will certainly continue to learn in the coming days.”

Adapting to new cars

Lawson still has to get used to it. “The cars are really very different and I certainly haven’t fully found my way yet. It is something we will learn a lot about in the coming days and weeks, also in Bahrain. But yes, it is really very different.”

“It feels like we as drivers can do a lot more to make a difference, which is positive. But it’s still very early, so it’s difficult to say exactly where we stand. For now it’s mainly about learning how to get the most out of the car.”
