Latvian Basketball Cup: Semi-Finals Set

Today, the opponents of “Ventspils” and “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzemes Augstskola” will be determined in the Latvian Cup of basketball in “Užavas”.

In the first match between “Liepāja” and “Rīgas Zeļļu” the Kurzemen won 87:78. The winner of this pair will meet in the semi-finals with “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzemes Augstskola”, which won “VEF Rīga” 197:165 in the sum of two matches.

Meanwhile, in the first match between the student teams, LU was superior with 81:69. In the semi-finals, the opponents will be “Ventspils”, which ensured a 187:186 victory over “Ogri” with Artūrs Ausējas’ last-second long shot.

Seven representatives of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL), 13 teams of the National Basketball League (NBL) and two teams of the third strongest league or Regional Basketball League (RBL) are participating in the tournament. The final will be held on February 21.

Last season, VEF Rīga won the Latvian Cup for the fourth year in a row, defeating the Ventspils team 96:81 in the final. The Latvian Cup competition for men’s teams resumed in 2021 after a 27-year break.
