In the Ardennes, against Flammes Carolo, whom they had narrowly beaten in the first leg (85-81), the “Mauves” were unable to reverse this trend and therefore lost for the fifth time in six trips. Which puts a stop to their great momentum of four victories in a row.
The postponement was not far away
Initially postponed by the FFBB, following a prefectural decree issued due to heavy snowfall, at the start of the afternoon, in the Ardennes, the meeting, between two clubs with the same balance sheet and having the particularity of being the most skilful at long distance, was finally kept at the scheduled time in a room which, as a result, was not full.
Very balanced, the first quarter did not give the expected offensive spectacle between the two most skilful long-distance teams in the Wonderligue. The defenses then took over the attacks.
The LBB limits breakage during the break
Landerneau certainly led from the outset 4-0 but Brochant, Clarke and the Polish newcomer Banaszak then took control (10-6) before taking the lead at the end of the first quarter (14-12), Elanga, Kane and Tsobgny having passed by. The situation hardly settled down afterwards because the match remained closed.
Elanga, Turner and Hériaud then responded to Jérome, Dixon and Gomis (17-17, 24-22). Until the Carolomaceriennes increased the tempo via Brochant, placing the Ardennaises in control, until Brochant, Jérome and Hirsch created the first significant break (31-23). The locals then benefited greatly from the balls lost by the visitors (sixteen in one half). Turner finally stopped this bleeding. But the LBB limited the damage at the break by being six lengths behind its host: 31-25.
Efficient Turner
At the restart, Landerneau took a big blow initiated by Brochant, Clarke and Franchelin (47-27), forcing the Breton coach to call a time out. Overwhelmed, the “Mauves” had suddenly given up. But while we expected a lone rider from the Flammes Carolo, the commendable efforts of Turner and Kane brought Landerneau back to 51-40 at the end of the third quarter. The Flames Clarke, sparkling, and Madjo did not go out however (61-45). And, this time, the Finisterians exploded.
And, this time, despite Turner’s efficiency (26 points, six rebounds, three assists, 19 rating), they could not catch up with the TGV Carolo (67-47). Mass was said despite Hériaud’s second prize (69-53). The rest of the debate turned into anodyne. In the end, Landerneau lost 72-56.
On Saturday, back in its stronghold, the LBB will want to relaunch and regain its control at home at the expense of Villeneuve-d’Ascq, an opponent who beat it in the first leg (75-67).
