Lamezia Terme – The new indoor stadium in the Stretto area was officially inaugurated after the final four of the Italian 5-a-side football cup. In the presence of numerous political, institutional, religious and military authorities, the ceremony opened outside the facility with the lighting of the brazier by Gianvittorio Longo, FINP regional delegate (Italian Paralympic Swimming Federation of Calabria), as well as Italian 100 Breaststroke SB8 Champion and member of the national paralympic water polo team.
We then moved inside the Palasport where the Aulos polyphonic choir performed Mameli’s anthem. Then, the parade on the parquet of the various sports associations in the area headed by the Asd Lucky Friends was evocative. Various disciplines represented: futsal, archery, rhythmic gymnastics, skating, basketball, volleyball, fencing, swimming, water polo, karate, tennis, padel, badminton, athletics and aerial dance. On stage, called to intervene by the presenter of the event, Ketty Riolo, the sports councilor was then called to intervene Salvatore Pirellithe president of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiutothe first citizen Mario Murone and the bishop Serafino Parisi. An emotional Pirelli declared that “this is the first act that I promised myself when I took office”. After the allocation of 200 thousand euros by the national government upon input from the political party Noi Moderati, the Region also rushed to support the management costs of the structure. “Having heard – began Roberto Occhiuto – that this system consumes a lot of energy, I can already anticipate that we will make our contribution given that every euro invested in sport amplifies its beneficial effects”. The mayor stated that the opening of this building was characterized by concreteness and inclusion. “Now our time has come, this city’s time has come.”
His Excellency, Monsignor Parisi, defined the futuristic sports facility as both complex and complete. “Here young people will be able to train in the culture of sport.” Messages of satisfaction, wishing full and efficient use of the Palasport, were also expressed by the Police Commissioner of the Province of Catanzaro Linares and by the regional president of CONI Scopelliti. Space, therefore, for the performances of the almost 500 athletes present representing local associations.
