If you keep winning but are still not at the top, you have to wait until you are, for KVZ ’23 that statement became true. KZ also did well in korfball and is fully participating in the competition at the highest level.
These are the sports results from last weekend. There was also plenty to do in football. Click here for the overview.
Saturday January 24
Badminton
The Shuttle from Wormer played on Saturday and won in Amsterdam against the students from US. The team is standing very firmly in 4th place.
Handball
Saturday evening is handball night for HV Zaanstreek. The ladies just missed out against VOS from Lijnden, but the men did win against FHC from Stiens in Friesland. Player Wouter van Lienen writes to De Orkaan:
‘They came to Zaandam with a not too broad selection. Because our goalkeepers played a very strong game, we had many easy attacking opportunities and therefore many goals. After 19-13 at half time, we opened up a maximum lead of twelve points at the beginning of the second half and it never became exciting again.’
In the standings we see that the men are 7th in the 2nd Division and the ladies are 6th in the 2nd Division.

Korfball
KZ played away at Dalto for the Korfball League and the first ten to fifteen minutes were still exciting. Dalto even took the lead, but after the 5-5 the Koogers took control by running out. Dalto came close, but never equalized.
With 14 points from ten games, KZ is in good shape, sharing 2nd place and only one point less than leader LDODK.

Groen Geel lost on its own field against Wageningen and has to make do with 6th place in League 2.

KVZ ’23 is finally the leader in the Overgangsklasse. The Zaandam team won against last-place Velocitas, while major competitor Achilles lost points. Also KVZ ’23 itself writes on its own website about the performance of the A-team.

Water polo
The gentlemen of De Ham and De Zaan both received eleven on Saturday, but won (very) comfortably. ZV de Ham is in a good 5th place at the top of the standings we see ZV de Zaan.

Sunday January 25
Badminton
Swish (Krommenie) and Matchpoint (Koog aan de Zaan) came into action on Sunday for an away match. Swish won in the 3rd Division, and is now 2nd in the rankings.
We received another message from Matchpoint via Dorien Schreurs about the match against Hillegom 2.
‘In both the men’s doubles and the women’s doubles, the rallies were won too often by Hillegom and the matches went to Hillegom in two games. Dorthe started her single strongly and took both games with a small lead. Unfortunately, the other three singles matches went to the Hillegom team.’
Finally, two mixed doubles were played, with sometimes long rallies and good play from both sides. Fortunately, the first double was won. The second was for Hillegom. With the 6-2 final score, two points have been added for Matchpoint, which is now 7th in the rankings.

Rugby
The second match of the season was scheduled for yesterday in Almere. We have not yet received a result, perhaps the match has not gone ahead. As soon as we know more, we will update this message.
