Korean Badminton Dominates: Hana & So-hee Reach India Open Quarters

(Reporter Kim Jeong-hyeon, Xports News) The Korean women’s doubles team of Lee So-hee and Baek Hana (Incheon International Airport), boasting world-class skills, reached the quarterfinals of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) India Open (Super 750) in less than 30 minutes.

The pair of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee won 2-0 (21-8 21-5) in just 29 minutes in the women’s doubles round of 16 against Julie McPherson and Kiara Torrance (Scotland) held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi, India on the 15th (Korean time) and advanced to the quarterfinals.

The pair of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee, last year’s BWF World Tour Finals women’s doubles champion and last week’s Malaysia Open (Super 1000) runners-up, easily advanced to the finals of this tournament as well.

The team of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee, who had previously defeated the home team Gayatri Rawat and Mansa Rawat (India) in the round of 32, showed an overwhelming difference in skill against the Scotland team, which had defeated the team of Ririna Hiramoto and Kokona Ishikawa (Japan).

There was a close battle with the opponent in the early and middle stages of the first game. The pair of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee, who took an 11-7 lead first, held their opponents to just 8 points and immediately scored 21 points.

Game 2 was even more overwhelming. The team of Baek Hana and Lee Sohee only gave up 2 runs in the beginning and ran forward. We accumulated points without making any mistakes and took 2 games in just 29 minutes without any difficulties.

After winning the World Tour Finals held in Hangzhou, China in December 2024, the pair of Baek Hana and Lee Sohee went through a long downturn. He started a major turnaround by winning the World Tour Finals held at the same venue at the end of last year and winning two games in a row, and continued his upward trend by advancing to the finals of the Malaysia Open.

Unfortunately, in the finals, they fell to the pair of Ryu Seong-soo and Tanning (China, world No. 1) and finished as runners-up, but the team of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee showed off their poor performance for a while and showed world-class chemistry again.

Meanwhile, in addition to the Baek Hana-Lee So-hee pair, other Korean women’s doubles teams were able to compete against each other.

The teams Na-eun Jeong (Hwasun County Office) and Yeon-woo Lee (Samsung Life Insurance) and Hye-jeong Kim (Samsung Life Insurance) and Hee-yong Kong (Jeonbuk Bank) ended up meeting in the round of 16. The match between the two teams is scheduled to take place at 9:15 pm on this day.
