Peter Bosz has still not extended his contract with PSV, which expires next summer. This seems to have largely to do with a possible national coaching position with the Dutch national team, as successor to Ronald Koeman. Hugo Borst does not understand that there is no clarity about this yet.

PSV would like to extend Bosz’s expiring contract, but has not yet reached an agreement with the trainer. Bosz makes no secret of the fact that he wants to one day become national coach of the Dutch national team. That could possibly happen next summer, if Koeman leaves after the World Cup.

However, there is no clarity about this yet, and that is causing great indignation among Borst. “I think it is insane that the KNVB is saddling Dutch football with a huge problem,” he begins Friends Lottery Grandstand op ESPN.

“They’re burying their heads in the sand and waiting for Koeman to tell us whether he wants to continue or not. I think it’s really crazy! We’re talking about policy. Don’t you want to know how you will continue after the World Cup? It can’t be true that that is determined by the current national coach?”

“Maybe he will continue, maybe he won’t be able to continue because of private circumstances. If he becomes world champion, I wouldn’t continue. If he makes it to the quarter-finals, maybe that’s all the reason to say: ‘Guys, for God’s sake, let’s stop it, because this doesn’t make much sense.'”

The KNVB wants to wait and see the performance of the Dutch national team at the World Cup before anything is decided about Koeman’s future. However, Borst now has clear advice: “Let him stop it and pave the way for new input: Peter Bosz. If you are now going to take a poll on who should become the national coach, then Peter Bosz will win hands down against Koeman.”

“Because this isn’t possible, is it?”, Borst wonders out loud. “This is mismanagement. Not thought about. Dramatic. Dra-ma-tic! I don’t understand why there isn’t more discussion about this. You can’t deal with the Dutch team like that.”

“You can’t say in June or July that the tournament was terrible, you stop with Koeman and then see who will be in the group for the new series in four weeks. That’s not possible, is it? And Peter Bosz will also have to make a decision at some point.”

If Koeman leaves after the World Cup and Bosz ultimately remains at PSV, Borst has another option for national coaching. “Maybe Ten Hag can come back, because he says he is not done with his coaching career. You can then steal him away from FC Twente. Then you could still have an interesting national coach,” Borst finally suggests.
