Jennifer Đermane: 7th Place World Cup – Lente.lv

Germane achieves a historic result in the World Cup

On Sunday, January 5, 2026, Latvian alpine skier Jenifera Gērmane won 7th place in the slalom at the World Cup stage in Slovenia, which is the highest achievement of all time in the history of independent Latvian alpine skiing in this prestigious discipline. As Latvian Public Media informs, Gērmane with this result exceeded her previous best results, when she repeatedly finished in the TOP10, including in eighth place. She proved her progress by being able to go even higher, competing against the world’s elite athletes.

The Cranjys Spirit – post with history

The competition took place in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, a famous Alpine World Cup venue that has hosted top athletes for decades. This track is considered one of the most demanding in the circuit. In the first race, Đerman showed the tenth best time, which ensured her starting position from the tenth place in the second race. She showed a solid performance in the second track and after the results of other athletes, she rose to the first place for the time being. However, only six competitors beat her in the overall standings. Đermane achieved the fourth best time in the second race and was 2.56 seconds behind the winner in the overall standings.

Strong competition and results

The winner of the competition was Swiss athlete Kamilla Rasta, who won both races and finished in one minute and 40.2 seconds. American Mikaela Shiffrin was second, losing 0.14 seconds, while another Swiss athlete, Wendy Holdener, was third, 1.83 seconds behind. Shiffrin, who had won the previous five slalom races, finished second this time, ending her winning streak.

Past successes and future prospects

At the beginning of this year, Gērmane had already achieved her best results, taking eighth place three times in the World Cup stages in slalom, which was a Latvian record until now. She is also the 2024 World Junior Slalom Champion. It is predicted that, by keeping her place in the TOP30 World Cup start list, Žermane will provide Latvia with the second Olympic starting quota for women in slalom. Her success is significant not only in her personal career, but also in the development of alpine skiing in Latvia, especially considering that her mother Ulla Ģermane (born Lodziņa) was once considered the greatest Latvian alpine skier of all time, reaching fourth place in the World Cup competition during the USSR.
