Ronald Knot, a member of the wider national team, returns to the home Tipsport extraliga after an early end in Sweden’s Färjestad. He played with Sparta Prague, signed a straight long-term contract in his hometown.

However, Sparta did not specify when exactly Knot signed for the Prague unit. “We wanted to strengthen the defense with an excellent hockey player, which Rony fulfills,” says the head of the Spartan sports department, Tomáš Divíšek. “We have been in contact with him for a long time, and since it was essential for us that he wants to come to us, we agreed with Färjestad to release him now,” adds Divíšek about the circumstances of the transfer.

Knot’s signing at Sparta is quite spicy, because in the past he was the captain of Slavist’s rival. He arrived in Prague on Sunday, he may make his Sparta debut on Tuesday against Litvínov. “We were in contact for a long time, only some circumstances did not allow me to return earlier,” describes Knot. “This time everything came together, I got a good offer and everything happened quickly in two days.”

“I’ve been through a lot of countries and organizations, but I’m old and have a family. It’s better to come back because of her.”

The shapely 31-year-old right-hander has spent the season so far in the Swedish top flight – he recorded four points (2+2) in 33 games in Färjestad. In the Czech Republic, he last played for Liberec, and let’s remind you that he experienced the last Olympic Games or the World Cup 2023 with the national team.

“I’m glad that we agreed on a longer term, I don’t have to undergo another move and I can build something more long-term in Sparta,” says Knot, who has changed six places of work in the last five seasons, including overseas Tucson, Finnish HIFK and Russian Nizhnekamsk, and is finally looking forward to a stable engagement. “I’ve been through a lot of countries and organizations, but I’m old and have a family. It’s also because of her that the return is better,” admits Knot in an interview on the website hcsparta.cz.
