The Vémola wrestler is out of custody after 25 days. He denies participating in criminal activity.
The state prosecutor released Karlos Vémola from custody today. A well-known MMA fighter reported about it on the social network. According to the Czech law enforcement authorities, it is not necessary for the accused to be investigated in custody. They replaced the bond with bail.
Czech website Novinky.cz found out that the financial guarantee that the accused had to post was in the amount of 15 million crowns (620 thousand euros – editor’s note). Vémola was released from the detention center in Prague’s Pankrác at approximately 4:30 p.m.
He was in custody on charges of organizing drug crime on an international scale. He was arrested last December, and he had a run-in with the law for drugs in the past.
Vémol’s lawyer reacts
According to Vémol’s defense attorney, Vlastimil Rampula, today’s decision of the state attorney testifies to the fact that it is no longer necessary for the wrestler to be prosecuted in custody and to be able to participate in the investigation in freedom.
“This is a significant shift in the defense. It is still true that the resolution, on the basis of which the criminal prosecution of Karlos Vémola was initiated, is unexamined and it is not clear from it what evidence is supposed to testify to his criminal activity,” says Vlastimil Rampula.
Vémola himself emphatically denies any involvement in the criminal activity attributed to him.
According to the defense attorney, it is still true that the detention of Karlos Vémola was completely inadequate in its timing and manner. “Even the subsequent house search, carried out by a team of police officers, did not find any evidence of Karlos Vémola’s involvement in criminal activity,” adds Vlastimil Rampula.
