Jets & Jon Gruden: Content Role Considered?

The New York Jets are said to be interested in Jon Gruden. His answer was clear in the familiar manner.

While what feels like a third of the NFL is looking for a new head coach, the New York Jets are sticking with their coach Aaron Glenn despite a disappointing season (3-14).

But that doesn’t mean you can’t improve the coaching staff.

According to a report from “NBC Sports,” the franchise has sought Jon Gruden, who has been out of a job in the league since his 2021 scandal. At that time he was still head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

He should return to the NFL as an assistant coach. He was recently pardoned by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a previous station. He won the Super Bowl there in 2003.

Jon Gruden rejects Jets offer

But Gruden probably rejected the offer.

Last July, Gruden declared that he wanted a job in the NFL again: “I’m not done yet. I’m on the verge of returning. I’m working hard to get another chance.”

But apparently he wants this opportunity as a head coach. Because he obviously turned down the offer to become the Jets’ assistant coach.

There is also still ongoing court proceedings. Gruden sued the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell. With this in mind, it seems extremely daring that the Jets even made a request to Gruden.

Jon Gruden vs. NFL in court

In October 2021, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times published sensitive emails from Gruden dating back to 2010. Gruden had, among other things, racially insulted DeMaurice Smith, chairman of the NFLPA players’ association, and called NFL boss Roger Goodell a “clueless anti-football pussy.” He made fun of the “Black Lives Matter” movement as well as female football referees.

In his lawsuit, Gruden accuses the league of a “malicious and orchestrated campaign” that destroyed his career. Gruden is seeking damages for the loss of his career and endorsement deals.

The NFL firmly rejects the allegations. In their motion, the lawyers call the lawsuit an “attempt by Jon Gruden to blame the NFL and its commissioner for the racist, misogynistic and homophobic emails that he himself wrote and widely disseminated.”

The NFL lawyers have once again filed an appeal in the legal dispute that has lasted several years.
