Itzulia Stage: Galdakao Start & Bergara Finish

The cycling tour of the Basque Country in 2026 will bring together the best teams of the international peloton between April 6 and 11

More details are becoming known about the Itzulia of the present 2026, which will take place between April 6 and 11. This Friday it has emerged that the Biscayan town of Galdakao will be the start and finish of one of the stages of this key cycling race on the calendar, which will once again bring together the best teams in the international peloton.

The agreement for the participation of the Galdakao City Council in the organization of a stage of the Itzulia was sealed this Friday. According to the race statement, the mayor of Galdakao, Iñigo Arriandiaga Hernando, attended the signing ceremony; Sports Councilor Asier Korta; that of Youth, Amets Iturbe; the president of OCETA Javier Riaño; Iker Amarika, head of Institutional Relations at OCETA; and Olatz Otero, secretary of the association.

«We are very happy to return to Galdakao, land of cyclists. We have passed through here with Itzulia and Itzulia Women many times, but there has not been a stage in Galdakao since 1996,” recalled Javier Riaño, highlighting the link of this Biscayan town with cycling in general and with this cycling tour of the Basque Country in particular. “For all these groups, for this quarry and for all citizens, it will be special to welcome the best cyclists in the world to our town,” said Mayor Iñigo Arriandiaga.


Galdakao will host the finish and start of one of the six stages of Itzulia that will conclude on April 11 in Bergara. In the case of this stage that ends in the Guipuzcoan municipality, they do know all the details: the date -April 11- and the route. There will be 133.7 kilometers between Antzuola and Bergara with a positive gradient of +3,000.
