They are expected to assist U.S. diplomatic security services, usually responsible for protecting the country’s athletes, during Olympic events.
This revelation sparked contradictory reactions from the Italian authorities. It occurred the same day as the murder of nurse Alex Pretti by the Border Patrol, another federal immigration agency deployed at the same time as ICE, two organizations which have intervened with violence in the streets of the United States since the start of the second Trump administration. These revelations did not fail to provoke indignation in the opposition and beyond, in the face of the government dominated by the radical right of Giorgia Meloni, always anxious to spare the Trump administration.
