Coach seat Indonesian National Team currently unmanned. PSSI urged to announce names immediately, no later than the first week of January.
Since mid-October 2025, the Indonesian National Team has not had a coach. Patrick Kluivert and his group of coaches from the Netherlands have had their collaboration terminated by PSSI because they failed to get Indonesia to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
PSSI has sent several people, including the Technical Director, Alexander Zwiers, to look for new coaching candidates. They have conducted interviews with several coaches in Europe.

There are two names that have emerged as strong candidates for the new Garuda squad ‘handler’. John Hermann, former coach of the Canadian national team, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, assistant coach of Liverpool, those two people.
Until January, PSSI had not yet announced a new coach. Football observer, Mohamad Kusnaeni, urged PSSI to immediately announce a new coach because of their busy football agenda.
Indonesian National Team will undergo the FIFA Series in March 2026. Apart from that, the FIFA ASEAN Cup is also waiting in the middle of the year.

The coach has to present his ideas, then PSSI has to test his competence and concept, then there is a contribution from the technical directorate, the National Team Body, the Technical Director, so that the decision is comprehensive. But don’t take too long either,” said Bung Kus, Kusnaeni’s nickname, to detikSport, Friday (2/1/2026).
“Indeed, I criticized it very harshly in the hope that there would be improvements in the recruitment system in the future. There were indeed improvements, including interviews first, BTN meetings, but don’t take too long because the agenda is busy. In March there will be the FIFA series.”
“No later than the first week of January, PSSI must have a name. At the latest it will only be able to work in the third week, not possibly the second week. In the third week he will start working watching league matches, meeting with BTN, meeting with the coaches, the preliminary process before he forms the national team will be a lot. Later, perhaps the process of seeing and evaluating players will only be short because in the beginning there will definitely be the most, discussions, dialogues, hearings. That will take a lot of time.”
“Trainers will only have one month to prepare for the FIFA Series. And that will be another argument why tim prepared quickly. “Back and forth we wallow in the same mistakes,” he added.
