“I think we are on the right track, but this is only the beginning of a process. Our players, in my opinion, are magical. They are magical. They can make good use of the conditions when they were young and the current conditions,” said Souto in an interview after the Indonesia vs Kyrgyzstan match in the 2026 AFC Futsal at the Indonesia Arena, Thursday (29/1).

Souto does not want Indonesia’s futsal achievements to stagnate. The coach from Spain hopes that the futsal ecosystem in Indonesia can continue to support the birth of quality players for the future.

“We have to do many things and a comprehensive movement to develop futsal in this country. What we see here is only the top of a pyramid. We see the roof of a building, and we need a building so they can continue to progress,” said Souto.

The achievements of winning the 2024 AFF, 2025 SEA Games, and the certainty of advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2026 AFC Futsal are achievements that show Indonesia’s competitiveness. According to Souto, Indonesia can be even better.

“If there are no more players in Indonesia, it is because we have not found a way to help coaches and players to promote. We are on the right track. Yes, we are on the right track, but we are still realistic, step by step. There is still a long way to go,” he said.
