Indonesia Masters Badminton: India’s Campaign Begins

In the Indonesia Masters Badminton, India’s top shuttlers P.V. Sindhu, Malvika Bansod, and Tanvi Sharma are set to kick off their campaigns in the first round of the main draw at the Istora Senayan today.

Earlier yesterday, Indian shuttlers Anmol Kharb and Aakarshi Kashyap booked their spots in the women’s singles main draw with impressive wins in the qualifying rounds. Anmol continued her giant-killing run by edging out Canada’s World No. 45 Wen Yu Zhang in a thrilling three-game battle, 21-18, 20-22, 21-19.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old Aakarshi Kashyap overcame fellow Indian Isharani Baruah 21-13, 21-17 in a solid straight-games performance. The pair will now join P.V. Sindhu, Malvika Bansod, and Tanvi Sharma in the main draw first round today.

In Men’s doubles, MR Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan were the only Indians competing on the opening day of the tournament. The duo cruised past Indonesia’s Devin Artha Wahyudi and Ali Faathir Rayhan 21-19, 21-13 in their round of 32 clash. In Women’s doubles, Rashmi Ganesh and Sania Sikkandar were defeated by the top-seeded Chinese pair Keng Shu Liang and Li Hua Zhou 21-23, 10-21.
