The newly formed Clavier Indiaka club will be the first in the province of Liège. And it is launched under the leadership of a passionate person, Andrée Wolff, from Huy, under the aegis of the Eneo service, which develops sporting activities for seniors over 50 years old. “I lived in Arlon not long ago and I played for five years, as an amateur, in the Indiaka club of Martelange, one of the most important in Wallonia. I moved to Huy and I really wanted to continue because I’m hooked. As there are no clubs in the area, I thought why not start it myself.”
The Martelange coach to supervise
The Martelange club directly assured him of its support and help. The Eneo Sport Liège service also said it was up for it. The brand new Clavier sports hall still had slots and was looking for new disciplines. In short, all the lights were green…
Led by Eneo Sport, Andrée Wolff is now in charge of setting up the project, she also ensures the cash flow and the organization. “The first class started on January 6 and the goal is to grow. We are lucky to have the help of the Martelange club, in particular the coach Eric Rinaldo, super-talented and very educational, to supervise the training.”
Call to players
The very young club is under construction and is still looking for players. “There are seven of us but to play a match, you have to be six against six.” The profile? Simply being over 50. Regardless of physical condition, level, course, gender (because it’s mixed)…“It really is a sport suitable for everyone, insists Andrée, and we take into account the level of each person and the group. We can come and try once or twice, without necessarily committing.”
Easy as pie
On a sporting level, indiaka has many virtues: developing coordination, movements, reflexes, team spirit…”And it’s really easy to understand and learn. The rules are based on those of volleyball except that there are three obligatory passes before passing the net, with three different people.”
Sport is one aspect but discipline is above all a vector of fun (“yes, it’s very playful and fun”) and social connection. “The primary goal is not performance but to let off steam and create group cohesion. At the Martelange club, the players organize New Year’s Eve together.”
Competitions in two years
If at first, the club will limit itself to training, Andrée would eventually like, if the sauce takes off, to enter competitions. “There are tournaments, each club organizes its own. They are great meetings too. We will probably wait two years.”
Indiaka is also a democratic sport (€3 per session) and it will be practiced in Clavier all year round, even during the summer school holidays.
