India Open Results: Winners & Highlights

JAKARTA – Badminton player Jonatan Christie defeated Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh to secure a ticket to the second round of the 2026 India Open.

Jonatan, who is the very big favorite of this tournament, overcame his opponent in a two-game straight match 21-16 and 21-10 which lasted 40 minutes at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi, Wednesday January 14, 2026.

“Thank God, I am grateful that I was able to advance to the second round,” Jonatan said in a statement received from the PBSI committee.

The most recent victory saw Jonatan improve his win-loss record to 4-0 against Jia Jeng. In the previous three clashes, he was only one of the times to fight for a reserve match at the 2025 Indonesia Open.

Jonatan will next face Yushi Tanaka. The Japanese reached the second round by defeating Leong Jun Hao of Malaysia, who retired midway through the match due to injury.

“Finally, I lost it (to Tanaka) in Australia, so I hope tomorrow I can have a much better performance. The preparations can also be more optimal,” said Jonatan.

Jonatan and Tanaka are 1-1. Jonatan won their first shock in two straight sets at the Kumamoto Masters 2024 and lost two straight sets also at the 2025 Australian Open.

Previously, on the first day, January 13, 2026, Indonesia secured two places in the final round through tennis player Putri Kusuma Wardani and men’s doubles Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

Indonesia has also further added tickets through the women’s doubles Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi/Lanny Tria Mayasari, which will only play in the evening.
