Despite a goalless start to 2026 so far, Patrik Schick continues to enjoy great trust at Bayer Leverkusen. Head coach Kasper Hjulmand clearly supported the attacker on Friday before the Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
“It works,” emphasized the Leverkusen coach, referring to Schick’s recent performances. Although the Czech is still waiting for his first goal after four competitive appearances in the new year, Hjulmand specifically pointed out the added value for the overall game: “He played good games – no goal, but he played very well.”
The coach sees the striker as an important factor, especially in terms of teamwork and presence on the field. Schick is “important for our game and always dangerous,” Hjulmand continued. Even though there haven’t been any goals yet, there’s no lack of quality or influence.
Leverkusen’s game plan remains tight
The Leverkusen trainer leaves no doubt that the effort will pay off sooner or later: “That’s how it is sometimes. The goals will come.”
Looking ahead to the weekend, a bench spot is still within the realm of possibility, but for different reasons: the English weeks continue for Leverkusen, so the question of rotation arises. Christian Kofane could take over against Frankfurt so that Schick has enough strength for the cup quarter-final against St. Pauli (Tuesday, 8:45 p.m.).
