This 24 year old defender is under the auspices of an agency that handles a number of the world’s top players, such as Miralem Pjanik, Leroy Sane, Marcos Alonso, Ante Rebic and Samir Handanovic.

This agency move indicates that Hilgers really wants to spread his wings outside Europe. The reason is that his agency previously failed to move Hilgers from FC Twente.

Hilgers’ situation with Twente is also not good. At the start of last season Hilgers said goodbye, but never received approval from club management.

Twente wants Hilgers to extend his contract first so he can get more fresh funds. Hilgers refused. Because there was no meeting point, Hilgers parked at the club.

Now Hilgers has a free transfer status. He has six months remaining on his contract at FC Twente, namely until June 30 2026. This also means that Hilgers is free to look for a new club.

While ostracized by the club, Hilgers only practiced independently. He was said to have suffered an injury, so he could train independently. Now, in early 2026, Hilgers is ready to spread his wings and leave the Netherlands.
