Bernt Klaverboer has to miss Sunday’s match against Feyenoord. The goalkeeper of SC Heerenveen is unable to stand under the crossbar during the match in the Abe Lenstra Stadium due to a curious incident in his private life.
According to the Leeuwarder Courant Klaverboer was injured on the last day of the training camp in Spain. The only twenty-year-old goalkeeper slipped in the bathroom and suffered ‘an ugly head injury’.
Due to the incident, Klaverboer flew back to the Netherlands a day later than the Heerenveen selection. A physiotherapist from the Frisians helped the unfortunate goalkeeper with the return journey to his own country.
Both club and player briefly feared a concussion. However, according to the above-mentioned regional newspaper, the injury seems not to be too bad, to the relief of Heerenveen.
The club of trainer Robin Veldman nevertheless complies with the protocol for concussions. As a result, Klaverboer will be missing from Heerenveen’s upcoming matches, which will meet Feyenoord on Sunday. This will be followed by matches with RKC Waalwijk (Eurojackpot KNVB Cup) and FC Groningen on January 15 and 18 respectively.
Nordin Bakker will take Klaverboer’s place for the time being. The reserve goalkeeper recently played against Feyenoord in the cup tournament (2-3 win) and made a good impression.
Andries Noppert is once again on the bench at Heerenveen. It is still unclear whether the tall goalkeeper will also have to make way for Bakker in next Thursday’s cup match with RKC.
