John Harbaugh and the New York Giants are reportedly negotiating a deal for him to become the team’s head coach, two people familiar with the negotiations said Thursday morning.

The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been finalized. Negotiations are ongoing, but Harbaugh is expected to eventually settle in New York.
Harbaugh has many options if the two sides can’t reach an agreement, but the goal is “getting to the finish line.”
Harbaugh participated in an in-person interview with the Giants on Wednesday, spending several hours at the team’s facility in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The former Super Bowl-winning head coach of the Baltimore Ravens was considered the favorite to succeed Brian Daboll at the Giants.
Harbaugh, who was fired by the Ravens after his team was left out of the playoffs in its final game of the season, also had interest from the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons.
The Ravens have reached the playoffs 12 times in the last 18 seasons under Harbaugh, and they won the Super Bowl in 2012 — a year after the Giants last won.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen, who is in his fifth season as head of football operations, said he will broaden the scope of the search to find a new head coach for the New York team.
Interviews with Raheem Morris and Antonio Pierce satisfied the NFL’s Rooney Rule requirements for visible minority or female candidates, and Harbaugh’s visit to northern New Jersey suggests the Giants beat out the six other teams with an opening.
