The German Hansi Flick, coach of FC Barcelona, wanted to reduce the euphoria after the defeat of Athletic Club, but highlighted the collective performance
The German Hansi Flick, coach of FC Barcelona, wanted to reduce the euphoria regarding his team after the defeat against Athletic Club (5-0) in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey, by referring to the good performance as “just one game”, in which he highlighted the “mentality” they had to “defend and attack as a team”.
“I always appreciate when we play as a team, when we play for each other. This is the key. We were in good positions, we created many chances in the first half and it was something very nice to see. But it’s just one game,” he commented at a press conference.
“I really value what we did today. We had a great mentality as a team, we defended and attacked as a team,” he added.
A match in which his team scored four goals in 16 minutes, from the 22nd to the 38th.
“I’m happy because we scored the goals very quickly, it gives you confidence and we can control the game. Furthermore, it is good for us to compete in this way and create this situation,” he said.
Furthermore, Flick explained the reasons why Lamine Yamal was not a starter and came onto the field in the 72nd minute.
“He had some discomfort in the last two days. He couldn’t train because of it and that’s why he stayed on the bench. It has nothing to do with an injury, it was stomach problems,” he commented.
On the other hand, he referred to the future of the Polish Robert Lewandowski at Barça, with whom his contract expires at the end of the season.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m very honest with him too, I’m very happy to have him. He’s at a good level, he trains well and scores goals. We have two players in that position who can play – in reference to Ferran Torres, who started and scored this Wednesday -. I’m not going to say that he’s going to leave the team. Why? We’ll see what happens at the end of the season.
