Group 1: Title Race & Sriwijaya FC’s Struggles

BALIKPAPAN – The 17th week of the Pegadaian Championship 2025/2026 competition officially ended on Sunday (25/1/2026), leaving fierce competition at the top and a critical situation in the Group 1 relegation zone. Garudayaksa FC managed to maintain the top position, while Sriwijaya FC sank further without a single win until this weekend.

Garudayaksa FC confirmed their throne in Group 1 standings with a collection of 33 points after achieving a narrow 2-1 victory over PSMS Medan at Pakansari Stadium, Sunday afternoon. This result makes them three points ahead of their closest competitors, Adhyaksa FC Banten and Sumsel United, who are in second and third place with both pocketing 30 points.

Adhyaksa FC Banten failed to stick closely to the top of the standings after only being able to draw 1-1 against PSPS Pekanbaru on Friday (23/1/2026). On the other hand, South Sumatra United performed impressively by crushing hosts Sriwijaya FC with a landslide score of 5-0 at the Gelora Sriwijaya Jakabaring Stadium, Saturday (24/1/2026). Jacinto Junior Conceicao Cabral was the star of the match with a score hat-trick.

In the mid-table, FC Bekasi City trails in fourth place with 27 points after a convincing 4-0 win over Persikad Depok. Persiraja Banda Aceh continues to maintain its hopes in fifth position (24 points) after sharing points with Persekat Tegal in a match that ended goalless (0-0).

In contrast to the championship competition, the situation at the bottom of the table is increasingly worrying for Sriwijaya FC. A crushing defeat at home meant that Laskar Wong Kito remained stuck at the bottom of the standings with only collecting 2 points from 17 matches. Persekat Tegal, which is in 9th position with 18 points, is now widening its safe distance from the red zone chase.

Overall, the results of week 17 show a sharp polarization of strength in Group 1, where the top three teams are competing within a margin of one win, while it is mathematically increasingly difficult for Sriwijaya FC to escape the threat of relegation if they do not immediately make major changes in the remaining matches.
