Filander Sacked: Biel SHL Update

A Swedish coach has been fired in Switzerland.

Today, Biel-Bienne chose to fire Martin Filander as head coach.

“Expectations have not been met,” the club writes on its website.

– Part of the industry, only to be respected, says Filander to Expressen.

The former head coach in Oskarshamn, and before that Malmö and Västerås coach Martin Filander, has been in Switzerland and Biel since 2024.

But now the results have not gone as desired and the team is placed in eleventh place out of 14 possible teams. Last Saturday they lost 6-1 away to Fribourg-Gottéron, which was enough for the club management.

Today it was announced that Filander may leave his position as head coach, which also extended over the coming season.

“A thorough analysis has been carried out and the season has not met our expectations. Therefore, the board has decided to dismiss Martin Filander from his position with immediate effect,” writes the club.

“Apart from the results, the game or expectations have not been met,” the club writes further.

The Express reaches Martin Filander, who gives a few brief comments about the news:

– Don’t really have much to say. It’s part of the industry, and it just has to be accepted and respected, he says.

Why do you think they made the decision?

– We needed a couple more wins at this stage of the season, regardless of whether we are underdogs, says Filander.

Swede Mathias Tjärnqvist, who was an assistant coach, will lead the team together with the other assistant coach Beat Forster.
