The Setabe athlete Feliu Terol, from the Xàtiva Badminton Club, has had an excellent start to the season by becoming champion in the men’s individual event and achieving the bronze medal in doubles in the Under-13 and Under-17 Masters held last weekend in Nigrán.

The competition, the first national event of the course, brought together 134 athletes at the Panxón Municipal Sports Pavilion. Terol started as the number one seed in men’s singles and successfully passed the group stage and the playoffs. In the semifinals he beat Iker Bartolomé and in the final he defeated Martín Fenoll from Madrid in a very close match that was resolved in three sets. With this result, the Xàtiva player is now in fourth position in the national ranking, with the points from this day still to be added.

In the men’s doubles category, Feliu Terol partnered with Ianis Aaron Elbase, from the Las Palmas Badminton Club. The duo, which started as the number three seed, reached the semifinals and finished the tournament with a bronze medal, after falling in a closely contested match that was decided in the third set.

Cadet Sports Games

On the other hand, last Saturday the second day of the Jocs Esportius of the Comunitat Valenciana in the cadet category was held in Manises, with the participation of five athletes from the Xàtiva Badminton Club. The day was not particularly positive for the interests of Sebastián, who closed the competition with 40% victories in singles and 30% in doubles.

These results were conditioned, in part, by the injury of Sergi Cucart, Pascual Pardo’s teammate, who was not able to play one of the doubles matches in full physical condition and had to withdraw later to avoid a major injury, with the aim of reaching the next U-13 and U-17 Master’s degree that will be held in Xàtiva on February 7.

Upcoming appointments

The activity will continue on Saturday, January 24, with the second day of the Jocs Esportius in the junior category, which will be held in Enguera. Nine athletes from the Xàtiva Badminton Club and the Xàtiva Municipal Sports Schools will participate in this event.

In addition, on Sunday, January 25, a new edition of the Autonomous Club League will begin, in which the Xàtiva Badminton Club will be represented by two teams: CB Xàtiva – Caixa Popular and CB Xàtiva – Dental Carralero. The first day will be held in Xàtiva, in the Francisco Ballester Municipal Pavilion, starting at 9:00 a.m., and the club invites citizens to attend and support the teams at the start of the competition.
