Experienced Teams: Tennis Without Zverev

Michael Kohlmann calls up his squad and keeps one spot open.

Without Alexander Zverev, but with a lot of experience: The German Davis Cup team will most likely have to play the qualifying round against Peru without their top player. National coach Michael Kohlmann called up Jan-Lennard Struff, Yannick Hanfmann and the top doubles Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz for the game on February 6th and 7th at the Castello Düsseldorf. The fifth player will be nominated later.

“We consciously decided to initially nominate only four players,” said Kohlmann, who reached the semi-finals with his team led by Zverev last season: “The Australian Open is very close to the Davis Cup. With an open fifth place, we keep the opportunity open to react to form and possible developments in Melbourne at short notice and in the end to be able to put together the best possible team for the duel with Peru.”

Kohlmann was optimistic that his team can live up to their role as favorites in the Rhineland. If Germany wins its home game, a duel with Denmark or Croatia awaits.
