Euskadi Indoor Archery Championship draws Record Crowds, Local club Dominates

Last Sunday, the Joxemiel barandiaran sports center buzzed with excitement as it hosted the XXXV Euskadi Indoor archery Championship. This prestigious event, a cornerstone of the regional archery calendar, coincided with the vibrant Astotxo Eguna festival, creating a unique fusion of sport and tradition that drew significant public attendance.

Organizers reported a remarkable turnout, with 114 archers vying for top honors across various categories and disciplines.The championship unfolded over two sessions, morning and afternoon, a strategic approach that ensured a smooth flow and accommodated the large number of competitors. Spectators where treated to a diverse display of archery prowess, with events featuring the Naked Bow, Customary Bow, Longbow, Recurved Olympic Bow, and the increasingly popular Pulley Bow, showcasing the discipline’s rich technical landscape.

A key highlight of the day was the seamless organization of the competition setup and teardown. The proactive involvement of the archers themselves played a crucial role in maintaining the event’s momentum and ensuring its prosperous execution, underscoring the strong sense of community within the sport.

Igartza Arco Club Claims Top Honors in Lazkao

The Igartza Arco club,a formidable force based in Beasain but drawing talent from across the region,demonstrated exceptional performance.The club fielded a strong contingent, including five male archers in the compound bow category, one traditional bow competitor, and three female archers in the women’s compound bow division, all achieving impressive results.

in the women’s compound bow competition, local talent truly shone. Enara Conde, representing Igartza Arco, captured the Euskadi championship title, earning both the coveted txapela (traditional Basque cap) and the gold medal. Her clubmate, June González, secured the silver medal for second place, while Idoia Gómez rounded out a strong showing for Igartza Arco with a commendable fourth-place finish, highlighting the club’s depth of talent.

The men’s pulley bow event proved highly competitive, with two Igartza Arco archers reaching the quarterfinals and ultimately finishing in fifth and eighth place. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the large and skilled field of competitors in this demanding category.

The Igartza Arco club extended its sincere gratitude to the Lazkao City Council for providing the essential sports facilities and for their presence at the awards ceremony.
