At the ATP 250 tournament in Auckland, Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler narrowly missed an Austrian doubles final.
Erler and his US partner Robert Galloway moved into the final on Friday after winning two games by the narrowest of margins.
Mega crime thriller in the quarterfinals
First, the duo beat the two Australians Reynold/Watt after a real match tiebreaker with 2:6, 6:3, 15:13. The two then remained victorious against the top seeds Bhambri/Goransson (IND/SWE) with 6:4, 4:6, 10:8.
Miedler clearly won his quarter-final match against Cervantes/Darderi (ESP/ITA) with the Portuguese Francisco Cabral 6:1, 6:2.
Semi-final exit for Miedler/Cabral
In the semi-finals, the number two-ranked Lower Austrian was eliminated against the French Theo Arribage/Albano Olivetti. The duo, who won the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane last week, had to admit defeat 2:6, 6:7 (5).
Arribage/Olivetti are now Erler/Galloway’s final opponents. The fact that two matches had to be played on one day was the result of the rainy Thursday, on which Erler and Miedler were unable to play.
