The last time was in 2022, with the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal. A month earlier, the field set up in the area of the Poetto racecourse had also hosted the finals for the scudetto and the play-offs of the national beach soccer championship. The curtain has since fallen. In 2023 the Municipality of Cagliari had published an expression of interest to organize summer shows on site, in an attempt to find a solution for a city that had been left orphaned of great nights at the amphitheatre. But nothing happened. Since then the 800-seat arena has been in a state of abandonment. The only sporting “sign of life” can be seen a few dozen meters ahead, where the Cagliari Baseball Club trains. Yet in the same place, in a not distant past, another Cagliari team trained. Here, until the nineties, when the center of Asseminello did not yet exist, you could meet protagonists who made the history of football, such as Enzo Francescoli. Even before that, Claudio Ranieri was preparing the historic double promotion from Serie C to Serie A in this area.
