The city of Palermo has officially reopened the Diamante di Fondo Patti baseball stadium following a comprehensive 5.6 million euro renovation project. Municipal officials, including Mayor Roberto Lagalla and sports commissioner Alessandro Anello, confirmed the completion of the work during a ceremony held on the morning of November 5, 2026.
New playing surface accommodates baseball and cricket
The core of the redevelopment focused on the stadium’s primary playing field, which has been reconstructed to meet the requirements for both baseball and cricket. This dual-use configuration is intended to serve the city’s diverse international communities, with local authorities framing the facility as a center for social integration. Beyond the field, the project included the modernization of locker rooms, the restoration of the ticket office, and the refurbishment of the stadium’s distinctive floodlight towers.
Amg installs new stadium surveillance and lighting systems
The stadium’s external areas and parking lots are now equipped with new surveillance and anti-intrusion systems. Amg completed an upgrade of the lighting systems across the parking facilities and the grounds surrounding the stadium.
Future development of the sports complex
The city has already outlined that the next interventions will concern the Diamante stands, the Palazzetto dello Sport, and the external areas, including the space dedicated to jogging. Commissioner Anello announced that the facility will now fall under the direct management of the municipal sports office, supported by a dedicated 2.7 million euro extraordinary maintenance budget.
City prepares public tenders for local sports clubs
The city is preparing to issue a public tender to assign time slots at the Diamante to local sports clubs. A subsequent, broader tender is scheduled to follow, which will encompass the management of the Diamante, the Palasport, and the fitness area within the Cittadella. The municipal government expects the Palasport to be delivered and ready for use by the spring of 2027.
