LOCHEM – Badminton Club Lochem (BCL) recently said goodbye to bartender Dirk Hekkelman, who was a familiar face in the De Beemd sports hall for seven years. Dirk created a cozy and warm atmosphere during the traditional ‘third half’ on Thursday evening, in addition to Monday evening, which is also a regular playing day for the club.

During the many evenings that Dirk shared with members of BCL, there was always room for fun, catching up, (travel) stories, frustrations, joy, and even sadness. Dirk was always ready for a chat, had the beer ready as soon as you walked in and gave personal attention to everyone who passed by. His sharp humor and quick reactions were legendary within the association. Nothing was too much for Dirk; he always went the extra mile to please the members – the customer, or in this case the BCL on Thursday evening, was king.

Many members have known Dirk for much longer, as he was also an active player and even trainer within the club. For example, he took part in the oliebollen tournament this year, together with his family. At the beginning of this year, Dirk announced that he had found a new challenge, a step that is both exciting and brave. Yet BCL will miss him enormously. A large delegation from the club showed their appreciation by addressing him and offering him various gifts, including a voucher. With this, BCL hopes to entice Dirk to hit a shuttle every now and then.

New members are always welcome at Badminton Club Lochem. Anyone interested in playing is welcome on Monday and Thursday evenings from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. There is an opportunity for youth to play on Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
