Fritz comments on plans

Eren Dinkçi is currently out of SC Freiburg and would like to leave the club. Several Bundesliga clubs are said to be interested in the 24-year-old offensive player, but according to the “Deichstube” he has a clear goal: a return to Werder Bremen. However, this will be difficult if nothing happens on the outlet side of the Weser.

Dinkçi played twelve games for Freiburg this season, in which he scored one goal. In total, he was on the pitch for 377 minutes and was only in the starting line-up four times. Hip problems and muscle problems have been slowing him down since the end of October, meaning he has only been part of the Bundesliga squad once since then. Although he has been fit again since the beginning of the year, Julian Schuster was without him in the first three games of 2026.

After a strong year in Heidenheim with 15 goals in 33 Bundesliga games, Dinkçi moved from Werder to Freiburg for 5 million euros. The Bremen native has not yet been able to confirm the good performances from Heidenheim. In 36 games he scored one goal and provided four assists. Its market value halved from 12 million to 6 million euros.

Interest from the Bundesliga in Freiburg’s Dinkçi

According to “Sky”, 1. FC Köln, Heidenheim and VfL Wolfsburg have also recently shown interest in Dinkçi, with Cologne in particular keen to sign the fast offensive player. There are said to have been discussions about a loan until the end of the season, but nothing was really concrete.

The Bremen-based “Deichstube” mentioned in its report that a move from Dinkçi back to the Weser is currently unlikely. There were discussions, but a transfer could only be realized if Bremen achieved high income in the winter, because Freiburg wanted to recoup the transfer fee of 5 million euros they once paid. One candidate for sale is playmaker Romano Schmid, who is being traded at Leeds United (to the article). Another factor that gives rise to skepticism about a transfer is Bremen’s system change. In coach Horst Steffen’s 3-5-2, Dinkçi’s ideal position on the right wing no longer exists, but he can also act as a hanging striker.

Update 4:24 p.m.: In keeping with this, Werder’s managing director of professional football, Clemens Fritz, told “Bild” that the club no longer wants to sign any new players during this transfer period. “We are currently not planning to be active on the transfer market this winter.”
