Women’s national coach Christian Wück has extended his contract with the German Football Association, which expires at the end of the year, until August 2029. The DFB announced this.
“It is a great privilege to continue to hold this special position and to have the chance to accompany the team at up to three major tournaments,” said the 52-year-old Franke in a press release.
Contract up to and including the EM 2029 in Germany
Wück would therefore not only look after the German footballers at the World Cup in Brazil next year, as expected, but also at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and at the home European Championships in 2029 if they qualify successfully.
The association thus created clarity before the World Cup qualification of the national team around captain Giulia Gwinn, which begins in March; his assistants Saskia Bartusiak and Maren Meinert will also be there until 2029. Opponents on the way to the next big tournament are Slovenia, Austria and Norway. The DFB and those responsible around Wück are firmly counting on qualifying for the World Cup.
Wück won the European Championship and World Cup titles with the DFB’s U-17 male team in 2023. In 2024, after the Summer Games in Paris, he took over the women’s position as the successor to Horst Hrubesch. At the European Championships last year, the German team was eliminated in the semifinals against Spain. The DFB women also lost to the world champions in the Nations League final.
