Yusuf Demir surprisingly made his first start this season on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Viennese was on the field for the entire game in Galatasaray’s 2-1 away win in the Turkish Cup against third division club Fethiyespor. This was only the fourth time since his move to Istanbul in September 2022.
Head coach Okan Buruk announced a few days ago that they would be parting ways with Demir. “We are trying to recruit players who will support our team,” said Buruk. More about this here >>>
Galatasaray is said to have tried to prematurely terminate the contract of the four-time ÖFB team player, which runs until the summer of 2026. In return, however, Demir would have demanded a high six-figure amount as severance payment and thus made himself unpopular in the club.
The Turkish media even described the technically skilled left-footer as “persona non grata” at Galatasaray. It is currently extremely questionable whether there will be an early separation in the winter.
