Darnold Likely to Play: Saturday Update

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to play against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday in the NFL playoff divisional matchup despite an oblique injury.

The injury occurred on Thursday. Darnold said he “felt a little something” in his left oblique during passing drills before leaving practice as a precaution.

“I just didn’t want to push too much,” Darnold said. “It wasn’t the day to push too much so I came back, had some treatment and I feel ready to play on Saturday.”

The Seahawks listed Darnold as “limited participant.”

Tight end Elijah Arroyo, linebacker Chazz Suratt and offensive lineman Josh Jones will not be in the game. For their part, Charles Cross and Coby Bryant will return to the game.

Darnold was asked about the percentage chance he won’t play in Saturday’s game.

“A very low percentage,” he replied. “Probably closer to zero.”

Veteran Drew Lock is the team’s second quarterback, while third-round draft pick Jalen Milroe is also available.

Darnold said he has never suffered from an oblique injury and will undergo treatment between now and the game, adding: “We’ll tackle it and be ready for Saturday.” »

Darnold, signed by the Seahawks in March after Geno Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, is preparing to play in the second playoff game of his eight-year NFL career.
