The National Baseball Commission reported this Wednesday regarding a accident occurred at the end of the second match of the playoffs of the quarterfinals of the 64th National Baseball Series, played on January 21st between the teams of Holguín and Artemisa, at the Calixto García stadium.
According to the official note sent to the official Cuban media and released by JITthe situation involved a group of local fans and players of the Artemiseña team, although the statement did not provide precise details on the development of the facts nor on the magnitude of the mix-up.
Following the incident, Artemisa’s pitcher Yuniesky García committed an irregularity, which —according to what the Commission reported— was acknowledged by the athlete himself to the authorities of Inder and the governing body of Cuban baseball.
While it determines the corresponding disciplinary measure, García was declared unfit to be part of the team’s lineup, remaining inactive as a precaution until the evaluation process concludes.
The incident occurs in the midst of a postseason characterized by high competitive tension and strong pressure in the stands, a context that in recent years has generated similar episodes in various stadiums across the countrywithout there being a clear and transparent policy on managing the safety and behavior of both players and fans.
