AMSTERDAM – Max Verstappen has never hidden his opinion on team management in F1.

The Dutch champion proves more and more that racing is not only his profession, but also a huge passion and he loves it with all his heart. That’s why he would probably never do what happened last year in Monza.

After a slow pit stop by Lando Norris, McLaren told Piastri to let the later world champion in front of him. Despite the fact that it upset him, which was noticeable in his voice, the team finally obeyed.

The Australian pilot finally admitted that the team management and the fact that he complied with McLaren’s request also resulted in the deterioration of his form, which cost him the title at the end of the season. The biggest rival of the papaya pilots from this season, Max Verstappen, also commented on the situation.

He recently had a very interesting interview for a German Blick. In it, among other things, he commented on the mentioned moment from Monza, which he literally laughed at during the race itself, when his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase described the whole situation to him.

According to Verstappen, it can also have serious consequences for Piastri. “I definitely wouldn’t do it. If you do it once without a clear reason, you’re selling your soul. The team can then do whatever they want with you. And don’t forget that Piastri was in the middle of the title fight at that moment.” said the four-time world champion.

It will be very interesting to watch the dynamics at McLaren between drivers who have clearly shown that they have the ability and potential to be world champions. Mainly because the team is definitely not going to change the approach and will not continue to be the designated team unit.

However, with Piastri and Norris balanced, the new season will certainly bring several moments in which it will be clear whether Verstappen’s words have finally come true and the Australian driver will, willy-nilly, take second place in the priorities of his superiors.
