Health is the most valuable asset of every person. In addition to a balanced and nutritious diet, regular exercise plays a crucial role in improving health.

Aware of the importance of practice, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nga (60 years old) from Group 89, Phan Dinh Phung Ward, gathers at the ward’s memorial square every day at 7:30 PM to practice folk dancing.

Ms. Nga said, “Every day, my peers and I come here to practice folk dance. Regular practice not only helps us improve our health, but also creates a cheerful atmosphere, which removes the fatigue of life and work. On days when I am busy and cannot participate in the folk dance exercises, I feel tired and unwell.”

Instead of folk dancing, Ms. Le Thu Ha from Group 86, Phan Dinh Phung Ward, chooses to jog in the morning. She says: “Two years ago, I was diagnosed with prediabetes due to a high-carb diet and lack of exercise. Since then, I have started jogging consistently and following a healthy diet, which has brought my blood levels, especially my blood sugar, back to normal. Regular exercise has improved my figure and health; I can now walk for hours on business trips without getting tired.”

In the past ten years, the trend of sports has spread considerably in the residential areas of Thai Nguyen. That is why the various departments and agencies of the province have also organized many fun sports and exercise activities to encourage people to participate.

For example, in 2025, the province successfully hosted the opening ceremony of the Public Health Olympic Running Race and the Pioneer Cross Run of Thai Nguyen Province; the opening ceremony of the swimming and drowning prevention program… Through these events, the province strongly promoted cultural, artistic and sporting initiatives at the local level, further developing the movement “All citizens practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh”.

According to Ms. Vu Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen Province: Currently, 33.2% of the population and 25.8% of families in the province exercise regularly; there are 2,026 local sports clubs; and 24 municipalities and districts have set up comprehensive service centers to support cultural and sporting activities and social services.

Remarkably, through community-based sports activities, Thai Nguyen has also built a strong group of amateur athletes who participate in sports competitions within and outside the province. In 2025, the province’s amateur athletes participated in 10 national sports competitions and won 168 medals, including 54 gold, 49 silver and 61 bronze medals.

In the coming period, all levels and sectors in the province will continue to promote the benefits of exercise and promote healthy lifestyles, and increase public awareness about this. Sports not only contribute to better health, but also lay a solid foundation for the physical development of the people of Thai Nguyen in particular, and Vietnam in general, thus meeting the requirements of national construction and defense.
