1. FC Köln – VfL Wolfsburg 1:0 (1:0)
The 1. FC Köln won against table neighbors VfL Wolfsburg at the start of the 20th matchday in the Bundesliga. After Cologne had only won one of the last ten games, coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team gained some breathing room in the fight to stay in the league with a 1-0 (1-0) win.
Kwasniok put shooting star Saïd El Mala on the bench again during this game, and Mohamed Amoura was completely missing from the Wolves squad “for disciplinary reasons”. Captain Maximilian Arnold, however, returned after a yellow card suspension.
Little came from the guests from Wolfsburg in the game. FC goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe didn’t get a single ball on his goal until halftime. But Cologne didn’t really manage to hit the goal either. Many passes in the penalty area were too unclean. But in the 29th minute, Linton Maina scored in front of 50,000 spectators to make it 1-0 and give Cologne their second home win in a row. This means the gap to the relegation place is currently eight points.
“In the end there is great relief,” said Cologne sports director Thomas Kessler on Sky. “It was a very, very important home game today.” They now have a more relaxed weekend and “now see what the competition is doing”.
