Manchester City has lost two points in the title race with Arsenal.Tijjani Reijnders seemed to help the number two of the Premier League win at home against Chelsea, but Enzo Fernández made it 1-1 in injury time.
the result means the gap between City and leaders Arsenal is now six points. The club from London won the away match against Bournemouth (2-3) on Saturday.
Liverpool will not yet convince in 2026. The Reds seemed to be winning at Fulham thanks to Cody Gakpo, but harrison Reed scored the marvelous equalizer in the 97th minute and the final score was 2-2.
It means a disappointing general for Liverpool, who drew 0-0 against leeds United on New year’s Day, in the run-up to the top match at Arsenal next Thursday.
Chelsea, with interim coach Calum McFarlane on the bench for Enzo Maresca, who was dismissed on Thursday, handed out the first pinpricks, but City then took control.
Erling Haaland hit the post after a nice move, but just before half time Reijnders opened the score with a shot into the short corner.
After the break, Chelsea attacked more and Neto quickly came close to making it 1-1. Though, City remained the better team and had the better chances, but in extra time Fernández managed to score 1-1 with some luck.
At City, Reijnders was substituted after seventy minutes and Nathan Aké was allowed to come on in the final phase. Jorrel hato came on for Chelsea in the 62nd minute.
At Craven Cottage, Liverpool’s problems started after seventeen minutes when Harry Wilson, after a clever through ball from Raul Jimenez, made it 1-0 for Fulham with a solid diagonal shot.
Cody Gakpo saw a goal disallowed for offside just after halftime. The same judgment also seemed to get Florian Wirtz’s 1-1 in the 57th minute, but the VAR still approved the goal.
Crazy injury time
Then came a crazy injury time. Gakpo seemed to give Liverpool the win in the 95th minute with a tap-in on a pass from Jeremie Frimpong.
Fulham sent the home crowd into ecstasy two minutes later when Reed scored the equalizer with a fabulous shot into the top corner.
for the reds, Gakpo, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch played the entire match and Frimpong came on in the final quarter. Kenny Tete was absent at Fulham due to a hamstring injury.
Manchester United drew for the sixth time in the last eleven Premier League matches. Northern English rival Leeds United kept coach Ruben Amorim’s team at 1-1.
Early in the second half, Belgian United goalkeeper Senne Lammens had to respond to a hard shot in a short corner by Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Fifteen minutes later, Lammens had no chance when Brendan Aaronson scored the 1-0 after a long pass from Dutch defender Pascal Struijk.
Strong attack Zirkzee
Amorim instantly sent attacker Joshua Zirkzee into the field. With success. the Dutch substitute brought Cunha into position with a clever through ball,who scored the equalizer three minutes after the 1-0.
Leeds United had a good chance to win in the final phase. Dutchman Joël Piroe, who had just come on, aimed over from the right in the 88th minute in a promising position.
At United, Tyrell Malacia remained on the bench for the entire game and Matthijs de Ligt was still missing due to a back injury.
Brobbey helps Sunderland with a nice goal
Sunderland drew 1-1 at Tottenham Hotspur thanks to a wonderful goal from Brian Brobbey. The attacker set up a one-two with Enzo Le Fée and then scored flawlessly with a blast into the top corner.
